Lost Time: Works by Ryan Beck and Jason Andrew Turner
Posted on January 23 2014
January 18th - February 22nd
This show marks a turning point for Jason Andrew Turner and Ryan Beck. Shortly after producing a group of twenty-five collaborative drawings together as a playful experiment, their work was immediately energized and allowed both artists to delve even further into the personal content of their own work while allowing a greater sense of clarity. This immediacy made them realize they both needed to make up for Lost Time.
Time itself is a relative bridge between the content of their work. Not only are they both bound by compulsiveness, but also in the vision, varied between linear and fourth-dimensional time and what binds the two. Beck’s paintings are full of color and energy, with a calmness that brings the viewer through wormholes of time and space, like an ever-moving river. Conversely, Turner’s drawings stand still, cutting the plane with a here/now, but buzzing with rhythm akin to tally marks on the wall of a prison cell. We are all victims to the perception of time; stuck against a clock that will never stop ticking, an intangible master that is a testament to our mortality.
